Daniel Villano.

founder · celebrity colorist · lead formulator

A decade-plus inside L'Oréal. Behind the chair on one side, product and R&D on the other. OOEDN was built bottom-up: clients first, then a two-hundred-person survey, then years inside the literature on oxidative stress and the follicle. Sixty-five iterations later, the answer was Scalp Milk.

★ founder story

background

I spent more than ten years inside L'Oréal. Behind the chair on one side, in product and R&D on the other. I worked on the launch teams for Platinium and Luocolor, and most recently helped launch Botanea in Spain. Color innovation, pigment chemistry, salon-pro education. That's where I came up. My work has run in Vogue, Elle, and InStyle.

OOEDN wasn't started from a brand brief. It was started from a single idea: build from the bottom up. Not from a category slide. Not from a market gap on a spreadsheet. From what real people in real chairs were actually asking. Scalp Milk came out of that. Out of clients. Out of a study. Out of one question that kept landing on me year after year.

Here is the honest part: nobody knew they wanted a daily antioxidant mist for the scalp. Nobody does. The language for it didn't exist yet. What they knew was that their hair was changing. The texture wasn't the same. The shedding felt different. The scalp felt different. They knew something was off, they knew there had to be something for it, and they knew nothing on the shelf was. We surveyed our community of two hundred people, and the answer wasn't "I want X." The answer was: "Why do I put five serums on my face but nothing on my scalp?" Same problem, two hundred ways of saying it.

That sent me into the literature. I went through everything I could find on oxidative stress and the hair follicle. What UV does to it. What pollution, mitochondrial decline, and cortisol do to the cells that grow and color hair. Then I read the other side of it. Decades of dermatology research on topical antioxidants protecting skin from the same kind of damage. The connection was sitting right there. Same damage mechanisms as skin. Same intervention class. Nobody had ever assembled them into one daily mist for the scalp. (The full evidence dossiers are published in the Lab: every citation, every PMID, scope-tagged.)

So I spent four years and sixty-five formula iterations doing exactly that. Twenty-plus clinical bioactives in a single mist. No drug claims. No prescription. The same actives a dermatologist would put in a face serum, finally formulated for the part of you that grows hair.
